SABOTS NOVICE

The Novice class is an all-encompassing, fun-filled class for children 7-11 years of in which participants will learn to skipper their own Sabot. This class is designed for first time sailors, as well as those not yet ready for the C3 Racing class. Curriculum covers the introduction of the Naples Sabot, boat parts, knots, and on-the-water sailing skills with a heavy focus on the fundamentals of upwind sailing. The goal of this class is to teach kids how to safely operate and learn to love their Sabot.

Requirements: Must complete & pass a swim test & own U.S.C.G. approved life jacket fit for daily use. Parent must sign up to be parent of the day.

SABOTS RACING TEAMS A-C3

The BCYC Sabot Racing Teams are available to children from 7-18 years of age who have graduated Novice & would like to learn how to race sailboats. The Balboa Bay Fleet schedule of summer events provides fun & competition almost every day of the week. As sailors 'move up' their curriculum intensifies in a constructive way. Advanced boat handling, race tactics, course strategy, the Racing Rules of Sailing, sportsmanship & sailor-program management are covered extensively. The goal of these classes is to produce first class sportsmanship, winning results, & love/understanding for the game at the highest levels of youth sabot sailing.

Requirements: Sailors must complete & pass a swim test, complete & pass a capsize test, own a race-rigged Naples Sabot & U.S.C.G. approved life jacket fit for daily use. Parent must sign up to be parent of the day.

Please Note

• Regatta registrations & sailor travel expenses are not included in class tuition.
• All coaching Fees for Balboa Bay Fleet Schedule/Local events in Newport Harbor included in tuition.
• Dick Sweet, Dutch Shoe, & Sabot Nationals will include their own additional Regatta Support + Coaching Fees.
• We kindly ask that all parents pitch in when we travel including tying down their sailor's boat / spars /dolley, towing trailers, carpooling, group snacks and hydration, coaches lunches & other unexpected challenges that come our way.
• Weekly BBF Racing for C3s typically occurs in the LIDO Channel.
• Weekly BBF Racing.
